Some dogs sleep halfway off the couch, upside down, against walls, under blankets, or twisted into positions that look impossible. Unless the position seems connected to pain, stiffness, or distress, weird sleeping positions are usually just another funny part of dog ownership.

When Weird Dog Behavior Needs Attention

Most weird dog behavior is harmless, funny, or normal. However, sudden behavior changes should always be taken seriously. If your dog suddenly starts pacing, hiding, barking excessively, snapping, trembling, refusing food, sleeping much more than usual, or acting confused, it may be time to contact a veterinarian or trainer.

Behavior that becomes obsessive, destructive, aggressive, or stressful should not be ignored. Dogs use behavior to communicate, and sometimes strange habits are signs that something deeper is going on.
