Snoop

Snoop

In the small, cozy town of Denver, CO, there lived a young boy named Terry. Life had taken a heavy turn for Terry when he lost his dad, leaving him to navigate his days with a sadness that seemed as endless as the sky. Terry was in third grade at the time, and the weight of his father's absence felt too great for his small shoulders.

Then came Snoop.

Terry’s neighbor, Jane, noticing Terry’s quiet grief, decided that a little companionship might help lift the heavy burden. One sunny afternoon, she brought over a scruffy brown dog with a wagging tail and bright, curious eyes. “This is Snoop,” Jane said, smiling warmly. “I think he might just be the friend you need right now.”

From the moment Snoop trotted into Terry’s life, everything seemed to change. The two quickly became inseparable. Snoop was more than just a dog; he was a beacon of joy and comfort during Terry’s toughest days. Together, they explored the backyard, played fetch, and spent countless afternoons basking in the sun.

One of Terry’s favorite things to do was to dress Snoop up in old t-shirts he found in his closet. Back then, people didn’t usually dress their dogs, but Terry didn’t care. He thought Snoop looked like a little superhero in his makeshift outfits, and Snoop, with his playful nature, seemed to enjoy the attention.

However, Snoop had one great fear: thunder. The booming crashes and blinding flashes would send him into a frenzy. During storms, he would tear through the house, desperately trying to escape the noise. One night, in a particularly violent storm, Snoop’s panic reached its peak. He barreled through the house, and in a heart-stopping moment, crashed through a solid glass window. The sound of the shattering glass was followed by Snoop’s frantic barking as he ran off into the night.

Terry and his family were devastated. They searched the neighborhood for hours, calling Snoop’s name into the darkness. Their anxiety was only eased when they received a call from the local shelter. Snoop had been found, ten miles away, trembling but unharmed. The sight of Snoop at the shelter, covered in grime but with his tail wagging upon seeing Terry, was a bittersweet relief.

As the years passed, Snoop grew older, and his once-boundless energy was replaced by a slow, steady gait. His eyes grew dim, and he developed a noticeable limp. But Terry’s love for Snoop never wavered. He would gently guide Snoop up the stairs, make sure he was comfortable, and continue to dress him in the old t-shirts, now as a symbol of their enduring bond.

Despite his physical challenges, Snoop remained a steadfast companion. Even in his old age, he would lie beside Terry, offering silent comfort and unconditional love. The boy and his dog shared many quiet moments together, Terry talking to Snoop about his day, his dreams, and his memories of his dad.

The day eventually came when Snoop’s time on earth came to an end. Terry held him close, whispering words of love and gratitude for the years they had shared. In his heart, Terry found solace in the thought that Snoop was now in a peaceful place, reunited with Terry's Dad in heaven.

In the years that followed, Terry would often sit in the backyard where he and Snoop had spent so many happy hours. He would look up at the sky and imagine Snoop running through fields of sunshine, free from pain and fear, alongside his dad. And in those quiet moments, Terry would smile, knowing that Snoop had brought a piece of joy and healing into his life, just when he needed it the most.
